This article is about my story of building habit of waking up at 5am and sharing some tips of building the habit and benefits of waking up at 5am.
Many people often say waking up early to be successful. But for me, I simply wake up early to cycle, exercise and write.
I am Ellen, 3x years old, a content creator. One year ago, I took on the challenge of waking up at 5am for 30 days. I built the habit of waking up early successfully. And now, I always wake up at 5am. In this article, I will share something about my challenge, how to build the habit of getting up early and benefits of waking up at 5am.
Around the world, there are many people have taken this challenge. Several successful people, including famous CEOs, support the “5 A.M. Club,” a concept created by Robin Sharma in his book of the same name. The book shares the view that the first hours of the day are precious and that if you master the morning, you will master your life. I was inspired by the book and decided to take the challenge to wake up early at 5am for 30 days.
Everyone has a different life, but overall, it’s not an easy challenge.
You have to overcome the allure of a bed and break the old habit of getting up late. In addition, it is also really really necessary to have a clear plan to do something early in the morning.
I decided to try this challenge because in the past, waking up early was a torture for me. My work starts at 9am so I have no reason to get up early. However, there are many things if we do not try, do not experience, we will not know how capable we are, and what we can do.
Wake up at 5am – The Secret?
They say “get up early to succeed”, is that true? I can get up early, but what’s the point of getting up at 5am? You must be able to answer that question before you decide to put yourself in a tough challenge.
If you wake up at 5am and then go back to bed at 7am, it does not make sense.
So, before implementing the plan, I created a schedule for the week to rotate the tasks that can be done at 5am. I plan to ride bike, take care of my small garden, prepare breakfast and write.
A clear plan is the secret to help you build habit of waking up early.
If you do not have a plan of what to do after waking up, you will easily fail to build the new habit. When you do not know what to do after waking up, you want to go back to your bed as soon as possible.
You need a reason, a purpose to wake you up, to get you out of your comfortable bed. You need something interesting to do right after waking up that keeps you awake and happy, and makes you want to stick to the routine in the days to come.
Have a clear plan. Plan it in advance, at least the night before.
Benefits of Waking up at 5am
For myself, waking up at 5am changed my life forever. I enjoy my life more. I have more “slow time” for myself. My health improved a lot. I have more time for small projects and ideas that make my life more interesting,…
Time for myself
When I wake up early at 5am, suddenly I have 2 more hours a day before starting the work. I pend 1 hour for cycling (or exercise) and preparing breakfast, and then 1 hour for writing. This is a great time to focus on the writing idea I have been harboring for a long time. For this 30 days challenge, I wrote about 30 people I’ve met in my life and how they left me with valuable lessons. This small personal project makes me have more fun and new ideas for work.
Time for your health
Cycling early in the morning makes me feel very relaxed and healthy. Familiar roads suddenly become new when I look at them in a different time, with a different mindset. Breathing fresh air, looking at the blue sky makes me feel full of energy to start a new day.
Sometimes, I choose to exercise at home. In the past, I used to plank within 3 minutes so I set a goal of training to plank up to 5 minutes. After many days of effort, I also completed this challenge.
If you do not have any idea yet, I suggest you can try some activities like:
Plank in 5 minutes
Conquer the 10-minute HIIT workout
Stretching
Practice a difficult yoga move
Walking for 30 minutes
Meditate for 10 minutes
….
In addition, I also try to make my own coffee, make breakfast and take care of the plants. These are all simple and easy to do but have brought a lot of new emotions to my daily life.
Time for your dream or things you love
In my opinion, the biggest benefit of waking up at 5am is that you find yourself in control of your time. If you have a dream and you set aside a special time of the day for it, you will gradually receive results in the future.
Or, you simply want more time to do simple things you love, like me. Every time I see the balcony full of green trees, my heart is filled with pride over a cup of morning coffee.
Currently, I still maintain the habit of waking up early at 5am. Overcoming this challenge, I have gained myself a good habit. Good habits not also bring us many benefits but also motivate us to develop ourselves more.
Waking up early for better sleep
To wake up early at 5am, I have to go to bed earlier. I usually go to bed around 10:45pm and sleep for 6 hours every night (15 minutes to fall asleep). Besides getting an extra 2 hours every morning, I also get many benefits of going to bed early, and finding myself sleeping more deeply. At first, when I changed my sleep routine, I had some hard time for a few days, but after about a week I felt less tired and full of energy for the new day.
Waking Up at 5am – 5 Things I Leaned
Waking up early is not a torture. Waking up early is to enjoy the morning, and to find yourself going faster – than at your own pace if you choose to lie in bed.
Waking up early is not for success, but getting up early to master the freedom in the morning. If someone hires you to work 8 hours a day, spend a few extra hours working on your dream.
Waking up early is not to see that the day is longer, but to see that you live a fuller day. If you wake up at 10 a.m., you probably don’t know there’s a lot of fun out there while you’re sleeping.
Waking up early is not a sign of old age, but of ideal maturity. If you have a goal to pursue, you won’t mind waking up early.
Waking up early is not a big deal, but it can be very useful for us. It takes 21 days to make a habit, and 90 days for it to change your life. If you wake up early regularly, I believe you will receive positive changes in your life.
